Established in 1992, with a few simple rooms dedicated to housing destitute elderly women from labouring backgrounds, the Sevashram was running for a few years before it was formally inaugurated by the then Sub Collector of Hosur Selvi.Apoorva I.A.S., in 1995. With the generosity of the community, the Sevashram was able to raise funds and support these women.
Over the past 16years of service, many women have come and gone and the Sevashram currently houses 5 female residents, who are aged above 70 years. Food, accommodation and medical assistance is provided free of cost. A dedicated doctor helps them on a regular basis. The Sevashram also conducts periodical free medical camps for the people of the nearby villages. Every year, on the annual day celebration of the Sevashram, Narayana Seva (feeding the poor) is conducted and clothes distributed to the needy.
The Sevashram will be a place for peaceful living and self realization. Guided by the teaching of Bhagavan Sri Ramanamahrshi, the Sevashram is committed towards rendering selfless service (nishkamya karma) especially to the rural poor, the aged and the disabled. The Sevashram recognizes the shallowness of egocentric living and encourages and guides the residents of the ashram and aspirants on the path of spiritual living and self enquiry.
The founder, strongly believes on the Sanskrit saying
“paropakarartham idam shariram”
(the physical body exists only to serve others).
